How We Analyse Pages

That's right. This isn't an automated speed optimisation service that gives generic suggestions. Every website is different so automated tools currently aren't specific enough to have actionable advice. We want to know why page is slow and what specifically needs to change to make it fast.

To get that level of insight, we manually analyse your website in Chrome Dev tools page by page to find out why it is slow. We supplement our findings with data from our warehouse and the measurement tools we have in this product.




What we look for

Time To First Byte

How can we get this below 200ms


  • Server location - distance from server to user
  • Server configuration - Is server compression used
  • Plugins - are they extending server think time
  • Caching - do all requests need to hit the server and is CDN caching used
  • Application code - how performant are the queries, what is the DOM size
  • CDN - can an accelerator like Cloudflare take some of the load
  • Edge Workers - are Google Functions, Vercel Functions or Cloudflare workers workers consuming compute time

How can we get above 90 on Mobile and Desktop


  • HTML - how big is the DOM, is it bloated
  • Images - Compression, rightsizing, lazy loading, webp
  • Javascript - remove redundant files, defer loading, code splitting, optimise delivery, server side processing, resource hints, self host, inlining
